Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,

Today I am in Asheville facilitating a Holy Conversation with the good Episcopalians around Asheville.  To date our Holy Conversations have been open, exciting and hopeful.  Also, each of you should have received a mailing from us asking you to complete our profile.  We need everyone's input so the Holy Spirit and the committee can identify those candidates who would serve our diocese the best.

Below is the Forward Day by Day reflection for today.  Blessings always!

Mark 14:22-24 "Take: this is my body." Then he took a cup, and after giving thanks he gave it to them, and all of them drank from it. He said to them, "This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many."

I try to imagine what Jesus is feeling, knowing this is his last meal in this life. He knows the end is near and chooses to spend his last night with the ones who have been following him throughout his ministry. Jesus is unapologetic about ruining the mood as he informs them that one of them will betray him.

He doesn't start questioning anyone. He doesn't send everyone home. He doesn't even tell the betrayer to leave. Jesus continues with the meal, continues to celebrate this most important and holy Passover, and offers himself up to the disciples, to his betrayer-to you, me, and the whole world.

I try to imagine what Jesus is feeling but I can only get as far as the room, the look and feel of the room, the aromas of the meal, the shadows on the faces of the people he loves most. I can't ever fully understand what Jesus is thinking and feeling because he is acting with a love that I cannot comprehend. I am astounded and humbled by that love, and the only way I can respond is to eat the bread, drink the wine, and enter into the divine mystery.

See Ya Sunday!
