The Forward Day by Day Meditation for December 31, 2015.
1 Kings 3:7 I do not know how to go out or come in.
Beginnings and endings are challenging, especially beginnings and endings of jobs, friendships, or marriages. Beginnings are filled with excitement and awkwardness as we get to know new people. We may feel excitement at the newness of a person or situation and apprehension over possible snags in the unfolding story. "What if..." can become a constant worry.
Some endings are clear cut and readily apparent, like high school graduation or a job promotion to another city. Other endings are less clear, like outgrowing friends when interests change.
Each relationship begins and ends according to its own rhythm, and there is no formula for doing it "right." Those beginnings and endings are the tender times when our own character and values come into sharp focus.
Kindness is more than a philosophy-it is an attitude, and a series of actions that exemplify the kind of love that Christians are called to live into, in the imitation of Jesus. By showing kindness in our beginnings and endings, we find the gracious and merciful ways to "go out or come in."
