All Saints Messenger - June 30, 2016

Grace and peace to you from God the Father and Jesus Christ God's Son!

During the next four months members of the All Saint's Vestry will take turns writing this article for the Messenger, during Fr. Gary's absence.  I have the honor of writing the first one.

As I hope you know by now, Fr, Gary is in Spain on the first leg of his sabbatical. Please keep him in your prayers as he embraces this time of reflection, re-creation, study and rest. Chris will be joining him for the second leg of the journey in Ireland and Scotland in about six weeks.

We are so blessed to have Fr, Walter Bryan serving as our supply priest for the next four months. He has been in our pulpit several times before and is retired after 40 years as a parish priest. His last parish was Good Shepherd in Tryon, NC. Fr, Walter will be here every Sunday except the third Sunday of each month when I will lead Morning Prayer and we will celebrate the Eucharist from reserve sacrament. He will make pastoral visits and lead the Wednesday evening healing service each Wednesday (including the third Wednesday of each month). Fr. Walter will lead the Adult Christian Formation Class at 9:30 in the Conference Room on the Sundays he is here.  It will be a bible study and discussion around Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Mpho Tutu's book, The Book of Forgiving.  Please join me in welcoming him as he leads us in worship at both the 8:00 and 10:30 worship services this Sunday.

All Saints will offer prayer and refreshments to those participating in the Walk for Peace on Saturday, July 9.  You will find more information about it below and in this Sunday's bulletin. If you have questions, contact Deacon Martha at 704-349-0686. I also want to remind you to mark your calendars for the Parish Cookout on Friday, July 29th at 6:30.

This is a time of transition as those of us in leadership at All Saints stretch in new directions during Fr. Gary's sabbatical. We hope that you will be patient and understanding with us. The Vestry has begun to reorganize the ministries of the church under the Gather-Transform-and Send model. As Christ's Church here on earth we are to gather God's children together to worship and grow together as the community of Christ.  As we grow in faith and learn from one another we are transformed by the Spirit to be the hands and feet of Christ here on earth for the purpose of being sent out into the world to share the love of God to all and to help meet the needs in our communities and the greater world.  You will be hearing more about this in the upcoming weeks.

I wish you all a safe and joyful 4th of July.

God's peace to you and yours,

Deacon Martha
