Luke 18:1 Then Jesus told them a parable about their need to pray always and not to lose heart.
Jesus knows that I really do need to pray always. He also knows I might lose heart because even when I remember to be diligent about tending to my prayer life, I sometimes wonder if my prayers are doing any good.
On my best days, I know that prayer changes me and that regular prayer shapes me into a more spiritually mature person-one who is able to take the long view and to remember that God is always working to bring good out of the various disasters and disappointments in my life and in the world.
On my less-better days, I let my busy schedule crowd out my prayer time. Or I let my need for something to be fixed right now-to get better right now, to stop hurting right now-fuel my frustration. Sometimes I lose heart. It is a comfort to me that if Jesus had to say this to his friends, then I must not be the only one who needs such encouragement.
