Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,
While Fr. Gary is on vacation, we share with you the meditation for today from Forward Day by Day.
Psalm 116:9 I believed even when I said, "I have been brought very low."
I have never felt the kind of utter despair that is frequently described in the psalms. In my experience, the brave souls who have come through such despair often pray with an intensity that I sometimes lack.
I have a brother who is one of these brave souls. He served as an infantry soldier in Vietnam and has since struggled with alcoholism. He was involved in an automobile accident that left him in chronic pain. He lost his beloved wife to cancer, and he cared for our dear mother during the last years of her earthly life.
My brother has wrestled with his faith but has never lost it. He is one of those people whose prayers I actively seek. He writes down all the details of every request. He brings each prayer before God without qualification or judgment but with the boundless grace of unbridled love.
I often think that those who have stood most deeply in need of prayer are some of the Lord's greatest prayer warriors.
