Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,
Fr. Gary is on vacation and is sharing today's forward day by day devotional. He hopes to see everyone this Sunday.
Matthew 9:18-26. "Go away; for the girl is not dead but sleeping." And they laughed at him.
"If it bleeds, it leads." This is a mantra often used by those who criticize the news media and producers of television content for reporting bad, violent, or negative news stories-all to gain larger audiences. Yet, the fact remains: we are attracted and often intrigued by bad news. It is proven that good news and inspiring stories often do not get as high of ratings as their sensationalist counterparts.
When Jesus came along with some very good news about the young girl in this passage, the crowd ridiculed and laughed at him. It probably seemed too good to be true, too hard to believe, and too positive to report.
Whenever we encounter miracles in the gospel, we are encountering proclamations of the kingdom of God; a kingdom Jesus has told us "is not of this world." Perhaps this is what is at the very heart of every miracle: an understanding that while nothing is impossible for God, we still struggle to believe God can do these amazing things in our lives-and so much more than we can imagine.
Blessings & Peace,
